We have an amazing story to tell you!
Our Lady of Guadalupe shrine is on the Church property. It is a simple place of prayer where many in our town come to recite the rosary, light candles, and ask Mary for her prayers before the Lord for their special needs. Many of our parishioners speak Spanish or indigenous languages - and are from Mexico, Guatemala, and other parts of Latin America. A large minority of our parishioners are Creole speaking from Haiti. Others are English speakers. Some of the people of our town are Seminole Indian, and live in the adjoining Reservation.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church was founded in 1957 to meet the spiritual needs of migrant workers in South Florida. People from far off places often come to visit our unique and special community. They discover that despite the differences of language and culture - this is a place of love, friendship, and Christian community - where all are brothers and sisters in Jesus, and all are welcome!
We are from different countries and cultures, but in this special place where God has brought us, we build community as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Our Church is a multicultural, immigrant community of faith. Most of our parishioners speak different languages, and many do not speak English (though they are learning!). Many of the almost 40,000 people in this poor corner of our country, to whom we minister are not citizens of the United States.
They work very hard, trying to provide for their families here in Immokalee, and also abroad in their countries of origin. But it is a difficult life here for a non-citizen.
Nearly half the population of our town and Church is migrant workers,

who live in Florida 8 to 9 months of the year picking tomatoes, oranges, and other crops.

During the summer months they travel North, doing the agricultural work along the Eastern seaboard.
Because of their background and status, many, many people live in unimaginable poverty in Immokalee.
Our Church is a place of friendship, respect, kindness, and peace; things often hard to come by in the harsh reality that is life in Immokalee.
Here, those who have -help, and those who do not have - find help. But here also, all give and all recieve. Love, faith, and hope are gifts that all can share.
